ARTISTS THE MEKKITS! The Mekkits are Mark Bristol, James Chambers, Adam Costello, Richard Sims and David Smith; a rabble of childhood friends from Cheshire drawn together through their love of nature, music and the sea. After many years of using the tide as their time piece and the beach as their inspiration The Mekkits! completed their formation and moved to the bright lights of Manchester from the Welsh sea soaked town of Aberystwyth. Led by the growth of Bristol’s beard the band have developed as free spirits able to express what they truly feel through their music and performance. Three voice harmonies; trombone and trumpet collaborations; and extensive use of percussion make up The Mekkits! magic. Bristol and Chambers bring the lyrics and melody to the creative table. Bristol explains: “We throw it into the mix and put it together piece by piece. We all know the instruments so well we seem to always know what to do.” When it comes to inspiration The Mekkits seem in their element. Florida, mountains, a welsh town, Rhoscolyn, murder, frost, bears, a Geordie ski rep, a church in a bay, animals leaving the zoo, tearing out a beard, the green Atlantic, reindeer and being up a tree.
